I explored six cross sections on the Peninsula looking for evidence of water and engaging with the people and organisations I came across on my travels. I was fascinated by the fact that the Peninsula is formed by a large meander of the River Thames, and that everyday a huge expanse of water goes back and forth, up and down. Water is increasingly becoming a very precious commodity, and I wanted to explore the relationship that people living and working here have both with the water that rushes past daily and with the water they consume. The Peninsula is a microcosm of today’s society in its relationship to water. The busy car wash that recycles all of its water, the ornamental fountain that is irresistible on a hot day, the yacht club building built virtually in the river and ubiquitous water bottle.
